Europe

Europe, the world’s second smallest continent by surface area holds an approximation of 50 countries including our islands. The European Union (EU) was established in 1993 upon the foundations of the European Communities. Malta became a member of the European Union in 2004 and membership resulted in extended rights and obligations of our country and citizens. The EU membership brought also a number of opportunities to Maltese citizens and in particular to young people and students. EU funding programmes have youth as the main beneficiaries in programmes like Youth in Action and Lifelong Learning.
